Another 5 star review for Anna!!
“A Royal Elf of Abalon” by Anna del C. Dye is almost certainly the finest Fantasy it has ever been my pleasure to read.
I have read a number of fantasies, and one thing has always puzzled me: why do the authors always seem to assign unpronounceable names to their characters, such as Cwwndyd or Xxsthal or Oquirrh? I find this very distracting; each time I encounter such a name my brain pauses for a moment as it stumbles over a word it cannot comprehend. In “A Royal Elf of Abalon”, the author not only used “real” sounding names which are easily pronounced, but she even provided a table in the very front of the book, indicating how each name is to be pronounced (just in case) and identifying who or what that name belongs to. I was quite impressed with her long before I learned that she is “an accomplished, multi-award winning author”. This book was a pleasure to read. The characters were so well-developed that I felt I would recognize them if I saw them on the street. I very strongly recommend this book for fantasy fans everywhere. It was an honor for me to review it. “A Royal Elf of Abalon” will be a tough act to follow for any fantasy story I may subsequently review.

A Royal Elf of Abalon by Anna del C. Dye
A Royal Elf of Abalon by Anna del C. Dye
This is the fifth book in my Elf series. It is a stand-alone book as
are all the books in this series. I was drawn to write about elfs after I
read The Lord of the Rings. What a marvelous piece of art that is. No, I
really don’t claim that my books are anything like the masterpiece(s)
that Tolkien created. What I do know is that there are many Elf lovers
who are starving like me for more clean elfin lore. It is to them I
dedicate my work.
A Royal Elf of Abalon came to me as I contemplated if someone could actually be cruel to one of my beautiful, saintly elfs. After the thought made me shudder, I remembered a class I once took in which the presenter said that as authors we needed to be willing to hurt our main characters to the core.
I smelled a challenge, and being the sucker I am for them, I took it.
It wasn’t easy to write about it. Then this cruel and selfish woman who told me her name was Queen Amathis popped into my mind. She kept coming with new ways to astonish me, on how one person can be so heinous. She became a pro at getting rid of her husbands—she had eight, would you have guessed? Then she became and expert in manipulating her chancellors, courtiers, and Royal Captains. When I though I had plenty, she managed to keep everything from the princess, including all the young men in her kingdom. As you can see I had my hands full.
Writing this tale of love, conspiracy, betrayal, and death was a
beautiful and painful road to personal growth. I thank you for taking
the time to visit me and partake of my work.
